INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to head to Critter Country in Disneyland to ride the infamous dark ride, The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.  Disneyland guide maps at the time of this recording don’t offer a description for the ride but the Disneyland website says, “Travel through Hundred Acre Wood in an oversized beehive and immerse yourself in the stories of Winnie The Pooh.”  There are no height restrictions for this attraction and the Thrill level describes it as being A slow Ride that is dark and loud.  Before we hop in our beehive, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.

1. The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh opened at Disneyland on April 11, 2003.  To some controversy, especially to me, it replaced the The Country Bear Jamboree that had occupied the land since 1972.

2. Before it’s opening, there were many different plans for a Winnie The Pooh attraction including an outdoor boat ride in Fantasyland and a spinning tea cups-like attraction that would have been housed in Toon Town.  These were all shelved and the Critter Country location was finally chosen.

3.  To make it appear that Winnie the Pooh is having an ‘out of body’ dream experience before the Heffalumps and Woozles sequence, imagineers use what is called the Pepper’s Ghost effect.  This same technique is widely used in another Disney attraction, The Haunted Mansion.

4.  Like Fantasyland dark ride attractions, each of the 22 beehive ride vehicles bears a different name.  These include Piglet, Rabbit and Heffalump among others.

5.  To pay homage to what came before, three characters from the Country Bear Jamboree can be spotted in The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.  The busts of Max, Buff and Melvin that once hung in the Mile Long Bar restaurant, can be seen if you you know where to look as you exit the Heffelumps and Woozles scene on the attraction.  Also, the narrator is played by Peter Renaday who served as the voice of Henry in the Country Bear Jamboree.

And now let’s experience The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.  Along for the ride today is Suzie and after we ride, we’ll give you our thoughts on this attraction, and believe me, I have much to say.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we are about to experience Disneyland’s The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh!

Living With The Land – EPCOT – Walt Disney World – Attraction Checklist #42

February 26, 2018 | 0 Comments

http://www.attractionchecklist.com – EPCOT is our destination this episode as we head to The Land pavilion to ride  Living With The Land.  John B. deHaas is joining us once again and he tells us of the time he almost worked on this attraction.  The audio quality on this one is especially good.  A must listen.   Recorded on August 14, 2017.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode, by request, we head back to EPCOT in Walt Disney World to ride The Land pavilion’s signature attraction, Living With The Land.  As of this recording, this attraction has a sponsor as it it presented by Chiquita.  The guide map describes this attraction in the following manner, “Sail through the greenhouses of The Land to see nine-pound lemons and more.”  Seriously, that’s how this attraction is described in the guide map.  The Thrill Level describes this attraction as being a Slow Ride.  Before we go check out those nine-pound lemons, here are five fast facts about Living with the Land.

1. Living with the Land is an EPCOT opening day attraction having opened with the park on October 2, 1982.  When it opened the attraction opened, it was called Listen to the Land but the name was changed in 1993.

2. There are 35 animatronics in this attraction including monkeys, buffalo, goats a dog and a rooster to name a few.  Perhaps to drive home the thought of living with the natural environment, there are no human animatronics on the attraction.

3.  The audio animatronics seen during the American Prairie sequence of the ride, we actually built before EPCOT even opened.  They were originally meant to be part of a Magic Kingdom attraction called the Western River Expedition, but that ride was scrapped in favor of building Pirates of the Caribbean instead.

4.  As you pass by the farmhouse, you’ll see the number ’82’ painted on the mailbox.  This is a small tribute to the year EPCOT opened, 1982.

5.  When the attraction originally opened, each boat was captained by a cast member who took you on the tour, these were later replaced by a pre=recorded narration.  Also, the attraction used to feature the classic song, “Listen To The Land” written by Bob Moline.  Though the song is no longer featured on the ride, an instrumental version of it plays in the land pavilion several times a day.

And now, let’s ride Living with the Land.  Joining me today is John B. deHaas and after the ride audio we’ll give you our shouts on this classic attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we are about to experience Living with the Land at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT!

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress – Magic Kingdom – Walt Disney World – Attraction Checklist #41

February 5, 2018 | 0 Comments

http://www.attractionchecklist.com – It’s time to experience an iconic Disney attraction, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.  Joining me is John B. deHaas.  We learn a little about the attraction and then give it a ride.  Recorded on May 25, 2017.

The attraction audio recorded for this episode is available exclusively to the Saturday Morning Media Patron Patron.  Support the show and get fun Bonus content over at http://www.patreon.com/saturdaymorningmedia

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to experience a classic!  This episode we head to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom to take a spin on Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.  Located in Tomorrowland, the guide map describes this attraction thusly, “Travel through the 20th Century to see how technology has improved our way of life.”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as being a slow ride.  Before we answer the age old question of just what is shining at the end of every day, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney’s Carousel of progress.

1. In the 1950’s Walt Disney came up with the foundation of the idea for the Carousel of Progress but the technology available to the Imagineers at the time made it impossible.  It wasn’t until General Electric approached Walt Disney to develop a show for the 1964//65 World’s Fair that Walt was able to make the show a reality, opening on April 22, 1964.  After a successful run at the Fair, the show was moved to Disneyland where it opened on July 2, 1967.  The show ran at Disneyland until September 1973 when it was moved, at General Electric’s urging, to Walt Disney World.  The show opened at the Magic Kingdom on January 15, 1975 and still runs daily at the time of this recording.

2.  The carousel theatre concept, where the audience revolves around the stage, was developed by a team of imagineers led by Bob Gurr and Roger E. Broggie.  This allowed the guests to remain seated during the duration of the show rather than getting up and moving to the next theatre as had been the original plan.

3.  The attraction’s iconic song, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow’ was written by Disney Legends, The Sherman Brothers.  When it first opened at Walt Disney World, it had a new song, also written by the Sherman Brothers called The Best Time Of Your Life.  In 1993, when the show was given a major overhaul and an update, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow returned to the show.  The Sherman Brothers have stated that that song, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow was Walt Disney’s Theme Song as he was always so optimistic about the future.

4.  The show’s original narrator, playing the part of the father, was singing cowboy Rex Allen.  When the show was overhauled in 1993, that role went to radio personality Jean Shepherd, author of the stories that inspired the movie A Christmas Story.  Rex Allen was still in the show, this time playing the Grandfather in Act 3.  One other voiceover note, Mel Blanc, the legendary voice actor behind Bugs Bunny and Daffy duck, plays Uncle Orville in the show.  And Janet Waldo who voices the grandmother in Act 4 was also the voice of Judy Jetson on The Jetsons

5.  Of the 32 different audio animatronic figures in the attraction, a crowd favorite is Rover, the family dog.  In the current show, Rover is the dog’s name the entire time.  When the attraction first opened at Walt Disney World, the dog had a different name in every scene including Buster, Sprot, Quieenie and Rover.

Now let’s sit back and enjoy Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.  Joining me today is John B. dehaas and after the ride audio we’ll give you our shouts on this classic attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we are about to experience Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Walt Disney WOrld’s Magic Kingdom!

Stitch’s Great Escape! – Magic Kingdom – Walt Disney World

January 29, 2018 | 0 Comments

http://www.attractionchecklist.com – Let’s head to Tomorrowland in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom to experience Stitch’s Great Escape!  We learn a little about the attraction and then hear it in binaural audio!  Recorded on May 25, 2016.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we head to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World to experience the Tomorrowland attraction Stitch’s Great Escape!  The guide map says: Interact with a mischievous Stitch in this dark theatre-in-the-round experience.  There is a height requirement of 40” for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes Stitch’s Great Escape! as being Dark, Scary and Loud.

1. Stitch’s Great Escape opened at The Magic Kingdom on November 16, 2004.  To celebrate the attraction’s opening, Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom was covered in toilet paper.  Supposedly a prank by Experiment 626, Stitch, himself.

2.  Stitch’s Great escape is the fourth attraction to occupy this show building in Tomorrowland.  The original right was Flight To The Moon which later became Mission to Mars.  After that, the building was home for ExtraTERRORestriel Alien Encounter.  When that ride was shuttered, Stitch’s Great Escape moved in.

3.  Several show elements from Alien Encounter remain in Stitch’s Great Escape.  Including the alien known as Skippy during the pre-show.

4.  With the attraction being based on the film Lilo and Stitch, many of the voice actors from the film reprise their roles in this attraction.  This includes Kevin MacDonald as pleakly and Chris Sanders as Stitch.  The storyline of this attraction takes place before the events of the movie.

5.  The Stitch audio animatronic built for the show stands approximately 39” tall and is, reportedly, the first audio animatronic ever to spit.

Now, let’s check out Stitch’s Great Escape.  I have edited down the audio during the transitions between rooms to make the show flow a bit quicker.  Keep listening after the attraction audio I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction and if you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording of Stitch’s Great Escape at Walt Disney WOrld’s Magic Kingdom.

RELAUNCHED! Mission: SPACE Green Mission – EPCOT – Attraction Checklist #037

December 4, 2017 | 0 Comments

http://www.attractionchecklist.com – John B. deHaas and I head to EPCOT to experience the, newly opened, green mission on RELAUNCHED! Mission: SPACE!  First, we learn a little about the ride, then we ride and review this revamped attraction.   Recorded on August 13, 2017.

This episode we head to EPCOT in Walt Disney World to ride the newly opened RELAUNCHED! Mission: SPACE!  Today we’ll be experiencing the Green, less intense, version of the attraction that’s been dubbed Mission:Earth.

The guide map describes this attraction by saying Experience NASA-style training with a simulated space launch.  The Green Mission of the relaunched Mission: SPACE has a height requirement of 40” and expectant mothers should not ride.  Fastness Plus is available for this attraction.  The thrill level describes the ride as being a Spinning, Thrill Ride in the Dark, though the Green Mission does not spin.

Before we are go for launch, here are five fast facts about the green Mission of Epcot’s Relaunched! Mission: SPACE.

1. Mission: SPACE had it’s Grand Opening on October 9, 2003 though it went through a soft opening in the months before.  When it opened there was only one side experience.  It wasn’t until May of 2006 that the less intense, non-spinning Green Mission was open giving riders two ride options.

2.  At 2017’s D23 Expo, it was announced that Green Mission would be getting its own unique ride video, dubbed Mission: Earth that would debut on August 13, 2017, the date the audio for this episode was recorded.

3.  When the Relaunched! Mission: SPACE opened in August of 2017, actor Gary Sinese, who’d been the ride’s CapCom had been replaced by actress Gina Torres.

4.  The new Green Mission still gives rider assignments for the trip of Navigator, Pilot, Commander or Engineer and each rider has the opportunity to push buttons at various points on the trip.  If the riders do not push the button in time, a storyline ‘computer override’ will occur.

5.  While on the Green Mission, riders see simulated views of Earth from space including The Grand Canyon, The Hawaiian Islands, The Great Wall of China and more.  All these visuals are accompanied by a brand new musical score for the ride.

Now let’s head to EPCOT to ride the Relaunched! Mission: SPACE Green Mission.  Along for the ride is John B. dehaas and after the ride audio we’ll discuss our thoughts on this update to Mission: Space.  Also, to cut down on the episode length, some of the waiting time between ride announcements has been edited out.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we ride the Green Mission of Relaunched! Mission: SPACE at EPCOT in Walt Disney World!

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

As a companion piece to last episode, this episode we are headed to Disney California Adventure to ride The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.  The guide map’s lackluster description of this ride says, “Be part of Ariel’s world aboard this attraction!”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as bing a Loud, Dark Slow Ride.

Before we set sail, here are five fast facts about The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.

1.  Located in the Paradise Pier (soon to be Paradise Park) section of Disney California Adventure, The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure officially opened on June 3, 2011.  It took over the spot in the park previously occupied by Golden Dreams, a film about the history of California narrated by Whoopi Goldberg.

2.  The statue of King Triton on the attraction’s exterior was related there from the, now defunct, Triton Gardens in Disneyland.

3.  The mural that can be seen in the ride’s load area where you board your clam-mobile is 86 feet long and was painted entirely by hand.

4.  The animatronic figure of Ursula in the attraction is the biggest on the ride measuring 7 1/2 feet tall and 12 feet wide.

5.  This attraction boasts a tribute to the movie The Incredible Mr. Limpet, a film where Don Knotts turns into a fish named Mr. Limpet.  In the Under the Sea sequence of the ride, Mr. Limpett can be spotted directly across from where Ariel is dancing.

So now, let’s ride The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s’ Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure and see how it compares to Magic Kingdom’s Under The Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid.  Suzie is along for the ride today and after we ride we’ll discuss out thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to head to Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom and visit with Ariel on Under The Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid.  The Magic Kingdom guide map describes the ride by saying, “Descend below the waves for a splashy musical adventure.”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a Slow Ride.  FastPass+ is available for this attraction

Before we begin flipping our fins, here are five fast facts about Under the Seas – Journey of the Little Mermaid at Magic Kingdom.

1.  Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid officially opened at Magic Kingdom on December 6, 2012.  It was built on the site of the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction.  Before that classic ride was removed, imagineers saved several jars of water from the 20,000 Leagues lagoon.  In a special ceremony with The Little Mermaid attraction opened, the water they’d save was aded back into the new water features as a nod to the original ride at that location.

2.  With a ride length of 5 1/2 minutes, Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid is one of the longer rides in Fantasyland.  It also boasts an interactive queue area where guests can help crabs sort out Ariel’s thingamabobs while they wait to ride the attraction.

3.  Original Little Mermaid stars Jodi Benson and Pat Carrol lend their voices to Ariel and Ursula on the attraction while Phillip Lawrence provides the voice of Sebastion and Chris Edgerly voices Scuttle.

4. The attraction reportedly boasts over 180 characters!  Most of them, around 120 characters, are featured in the Under the Sea sequence of the ride.

5.  Finally, if you’re a fan of finding hidden Mickeys in the Disney parks, this attraction boasts one of the most unique Hidden Mickeys ever.  Imagineers constructed the rocks outside the queue for the attraction in such a way that the sun creates a Hidden Mickey only once a year at noon on November 18th, Mickey Mouse’s Birthday!

Let’s hop aboard our clamshell to a pay a visit to Ariel and friends.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and he and I will discuss our thoughts on this attraction after the ride audio.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, Magic Kingdom’s Under the Sea – The Journey of the Little Mermaid.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to take a drive to Cars Land at Disney California Adventure and ride Disneyland Resort’s first trackless attraction, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.  The guide map describes this attraction in the following manner, “Luigi’s Cousins from Italy are in town to perform their favorite dances and you get to go along for the ride.”  There are no height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes as Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters as being a Thrill Ride with spinning and also cautions it as being loud.

Before we take a spin for ourselves, here are five fast facts about Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.

1.  Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters opened in Disney California Adventure on March 7, 2016.  The attraction was a replacement for the Cars Land original attraction Luigi’s Flying Tires.

2.  As mentioned at the top of the show, this is the first attraction at Disneyland Resort to utilize a trackless vehicle system, meaning that as the cars move and spin around the quote/unquote dance floor they do so without the aid of any sort of track system.  There are 18 different paths that each car can take at any time making each ride on this attraction truly  different.

3.  The attraction features Luigi and his cousins singing several car themed takes on classic Italian songs.  The songs play randomly lending even more to that ‘every ride is different’ feel of the attraction.

4.  Half of Luigi’s cousins, the ride vehicles’ are male and the other half are female.  Grill mustaches on the male cars make it easy to tell the difference.  Each of the ride vehicles also has its own name and each of the cars is unique except for two ‘twin sister’ cars, Rosa and Gina, but even they are different as they have different color eyes.

5.  In September of 2017, it was announced that Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters would receive a Halloween Themed Makeover called Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-o-ween complete with brand new spooky songs and halloween decorations.

Now it’s time to join Luigi for his race day celebration and ride Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.  John B. deHaas is along for the ride today and it’s his first time on this attraction.  Stay tuned after the ride audio to hear our thoughts on this attraction and this is a binaural recording, so put your headphones on now.  This is Disney California Adventures’s Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.
