Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

As a companion piece to last episode, this episode we are headed to Disney California Adventure to ride The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.  The guide map’s lackluster description of this ride says, “Be part of Ariel’s world aboard this attraction!”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as bing a Loud, Dark Slow Ride.

Before we set sail, here are five fast facts about The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.

1.  Located in the Paradise Pier (soon to be Paradise Park) section of Disney California Adventure, The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure officially opened on June 3, 2011.  It took over the spot in the park previously occupied by Golden Dreams, a film about the history of California narrated by Whoopi Goldberg.

2.  The statue of King Triton on the attraction’s exterior was related there from the, now defunct, Triton Gardens in Disneyland.

3.  The mural that can be seen in the ride’s load area where you board your clam-mobile is 86 feet long and was painted entirely by hand.

4.  The animatronic figure of Ursula in the attraction is the biggest on the ride measuring 7 1/2 feet tall and 12 feet wide.

5.  This attraction boasts a tribute to the movie The Incredible Mr. Limpet, a film where Don Knotts turns into a fish named Mr. Limpet.  In the Under the Sea sequence of the ride, Mr. Limpett can be spotted directly across from where Ariel is dancing.

So now, let’s ride The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s’ Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure and see how it compares to Magic Kingdom’s Under The Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid.  Suzie is along for the ride today and after we ride we’ll discuss out thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to head to Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom and visit with Ariel on Under The Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid.  The Magic Kingdom guide map describes the ride by saying, “Descend below the waves for a splashy musical adventure.”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a Slow Ride.  FastPass+ is available for this attraction

Before we begin flipping our fins, here are five fast facts about Under the Seas – Journey of the Little Mermaid at Magic Kingdom.

1.  Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid officially opened at Magic Kingdom on December 6, 2012.  It was built on the site of the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction.  Before that classic ride was removed, imagineers saved several jars of water from the 20,000 Leagues lagoon.  In a special ceremony with The Little Mermaid attraction opened, the water they’d save was aded back into the new water features as a nod to the original ride at that location.

2.  With a ride length of 5 1/2 minutes, Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid is one of the longer rides in Fantasyland.  It also boasts an interactive queue area where guests can help crabs sort out Ariel’s thingamabobs while they wait to ride the attraction.

3.  Original Little Mermaid stars Jodi Benson and Pat Carrol lend their voices to Ariel and Ursula on the attraction while Phillip Lawrence provides the voice of Sebastion and Chris Edgerly voices Scuttle.

4. The attraction reportedly boasts over 180 characters!  Most of them, around 120 characters, are featured in the Under the Sea sequence of the ride.

5.  Finally, if you’re a fan of finding hidden Mickeys in the Disney parks, this attraction boasts one of the most unique Hidden Mickeys ever.  Imagineers constructed the rocks outside the queue for the attraction in such a way that the sun creates a Hidden Mickey only once a year at noon on November 18th, Mickey Mouse’s Birthday!

Let’s hop aboard our clamshell to a pay a visit to Ariel and friends.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and he and I will discuss our thoughts on this attraction after the ride audio.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, Magic Kingdom’s Under the Sea – The Journey of the Little Mermaid.

Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters – Disney California Adventure – Attraction Checklist #034

http://www.attractionchecklist.com – It’s time to take a drive to Cars Land at Disney California Adventure and ride Disneyland Resort’s first trackless attraction, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.  Joining the fun, for his very first ride on this attraction, is John B. deHaas.  After we ride, we discuss our thoughts on this ride that has stood the test of time.  Recorded on June 22, 2016.

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to take a drive to Cars Land at Disney California Adventure and ride Disneyland Resort’s first trackless attraction, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.  The guide map describes this attraction in the following manner, “Luigi’s Cousins from Italy are in town to perform their favorite dances and you get to go along for the ride.”  There are no height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes as Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters as being a Thrill Ride with spinning and also cautions it as being loud.

Before we take a spin for ourselves, here are five fast facts about Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.

1.  Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters opened in Disney California Adventure on March 7, 2016.  The attraction was a replacement for the Cars Land original attraction Luigi’s Flying Tires.

2.  As mentioned at the top of the show, this is the first attraction at Disneyland Resort to utilize a trackless vehicle system, meaning that as the cars move and spin around the quote/unquote dance floor they do so without the aid of any sort of track system.  There are 18 different paths that each car can take at any time making each ride on this attraction truly  different.

3.  The attraction features Luigi and his cousins singing several car themed takes on classic Italian songs.  The songs play randomly lending even more to that ‘every ride is different’ feel of the attraction.

4.  Half of Luigi’s cousins, the ride vehicles’ are male and the other half are female.  Grill mustaches on the male cars make it easy to tell the difference.  Each of the ride vehicles also has its own name and each of the cars is unique except for two ‘twin sister’ cars, Rosa and Gina, but even they are different as they have different color eyes.

5.  In September of 2017, it was announced that Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters would receive a Halloween Themed Makeover called Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-o-ween complete with brand new spooky songs and halloween decorations.

Now it’s time to join Luigi for his race day celebration and ride Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.  John B. deHaas is along for the ride today and it’s his first time on this attraction.  Stay tuned after the ride audio to hear our thoughts on this attraction and this is a binaural recording, so put your headphones on now.  This is Disney California Adventures’s Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.

Storybook Land Canal Boats – Disneyland – Attraction Checklist #033

Storybook Land Canal Boats – Disneyland – Attraction Checklist #033

http://www.attractionchecklist.com –  This episode we experience an attraction that has been around from opening day at Disneyland, the Storybook Land Canal Boats.  Joining the fun, for his very first ride on this attraction, is John B. deHaas.  After we ride, we discuss our thoughts on this ride that has stood the test of time.  Recorded on June 21, 2016.  Photo by Jeff Peterson.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

Let’s take a trip to Disneyland’s Fantasyland and enjoy a leisurely cruise on the Storybook Land Canal Boats.  The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying, “Cast off on a colorful canal boat for a “mini” tour of fairytale destinations seen in classic Disney animated movies.”  There are no height restrictions for this attraction and the thrill level describes the attraction as being a slow ride and a water ride.

Before we set sail, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Storybook Land Canal Boats.

1.  The Storybook Land Canal Boats is a Disneyland, opening day attraction.  Although when the attraction opened on July 17, 1955, it lacked the landscaping and miniature houses it is known for today.  After only two months of operation, the attraction was closed and when it reopened in June of 1956 the landscaping and miniature houses had been added.

2.  The lighthouse at the entrance to the queue line is the former ticket booth from when Disneyland guests needed tickets to ride the attractions.  In those days, the Storybook Land Canal boats were a D ticket attraction.

3.  The attraction’s fleet of electric inboard motor powered boats are each named after a Disney character including Alice, Belle, Merryweather and Wendy.

4.  As you will hear, guests on the attraction sail past miniature replicas of locations from Disney animated films including the houses of the Three little pigs, The Dwarves Cottage from Snow White and Cinderella’s Castle.  Over the years, miniature buildings from newer Disney animated films have been added to the attraction. in 1994, the Sultan’s Palace from Aladdin was added and in 2014, several buildings form the movie Frozen were added.

5.  The doors of many of the buildings guests see on this attraction actually open and close.  Not only does this add to the realism, it allows Disneyland employees to change and light bulbs that burn out inside the buildings.

Let us now set sail on our cruise of Storybook land.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas who will be experiencing the attraction for the first time.  You’ll hear his thoughts on this Disneyland Classic as well as mine after the ride audio.  This is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Disneyland’s Storybook Land Canal Boats.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! – Disney California Adventure – Attraction Checklist #032

http://www.attractionchecklist.com – It’s time to experience the Marvel Universe in the Disney Parks as we explore Disney California Adventure’s Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!  First we’ll learn a bit about the ride and then join Rocket Raccoon to help the Guardians of the Galaxy escape The Collector’s fortress. Recorded on June 27, 2017.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we head to Disney California Adventure to experience Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!  The guide map describes the attraction in the following manner: Join Rocket on a thrilling mission to rescue the Guardians of the Galaxy from The Collector’s fortress! Guests must be 40” or taller in order to ride this attraction and FastPasses are available.

Before we head out on our rescue mission, here are five fast facts about Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout!

1.  Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout! opened on May 27, 2017.  The attraction is a, somewhat controversial, rethemeing of the park’s Twilight Zone Tower of Terror which opened on May 5, 2004 and closed January 3rd, 2017.  Mission Breakout uses the same ride system as the previous attraction but the queue area and storyline of the ride has been completely changed.

2.  Mission: Breakout is based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy and stars the original actors from the film.  Though the attraction is somewhat linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the story and events of the attraction exist in their own, separate, universe called the Marvel Theme Park Universe.

3.  Keeping with the original Tower of Terror, each ride on Mission: Breakout is unique thanks to computer randomization.  Also, as guests experience the attraction, they will hear one of six random songs played from character Peter Quill’s walkman.  The six song possibilities are “Give Up The Funk” by Parliament, “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf, “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar, “Free Ride” by the Edgar Winter Group and “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley.

4.  Throughout the queue area of the attraction there are several  Disney Easter Eggs hidden here and there.  These include: an invoice from X-S Tech the company behind the old Alien Encounter attraction, a tribute to Gonzo from The Muppets, and Dolores the octopus from the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown.  There are also those who say if you look at the Collector’s collection hard enough, you may just spot Figment from Walt Disney World’s EPCOT!

5.  In August 2017, it was announced that Mission: Breakout! would receive a halloween themed overlay after sunset during the halloween season at California Adventure.  The new overlay is called Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark.  The ride features a brand new song called Monsters After Dark written by Tyler Bates, who’s scored the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Now let’s help Rocket Raccoon free the rest of the Guardians team!  The line was extra long this day so there will be some edits in the audio so you don’t have to wait in real time.  After the ride audio I’ll give you my thoughts on the attraction as you’ll be hearing my review moments after riding for the first time.  Also, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we ride Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we are going to say goodbye to a recently extinct attraction, Ellen’s Energy Adventure at the Universe of Energy Pavilion at EPCOT at Walt Disney World.  EPCOT’s guide map described the attraction in the following way: Take a multimedia romp through time and Ellen DeGeneres’ subconscious at Universe of Energy. There were no age or height requirements for this attraction.

Before we take one last ride, let’s zap through five fast facts about  on Ellen’s Energy Adventure.

1.  Ellen’s Energy Adventure was located in the Universe of Energy Pavilion in EPCOT’S Future World East.  The pavilion opened with the park on October 1, 1982.The original attraction operated until January 21, 1996 when it was closed to make way for the updated attraction, Ellen’s Energy Adventure which opened officially on September 15, 1996.  When the new version of the attraction opened, it included an audio animatronic of Ellen herself that was seen fighting off a dinosaur with a tree branch.  After November 2014, the audio animatronic stopped working and was removed never to be replaced.

2.  When the attraction opened originally it was announced that the pavilion’s roof was covered in 80,000 photovoltaic cells that partially powered the moving theatre seat ride vehicles in the attraction.  These traveling theatre cars followed guide wire in the floor instead of conventional tracks and each of the six ride vehicles could hold up to 80 people.

3.  The ride had a running time of a whopping 45 minutes from start to finish!  Hosts would often repeatedly remind guests that once they boarded the traveling theatre seats, there was no exiting the attraction until it was completed.

4.  The music for Ellen’s Energy Adventure was composed by Emmy Winner Bruce Broghton who has composed music for other EPCOT attractions such as Spaceship Earth, O’ Canada and Soarin’ Around the World.

5.  Ellen’s Energy Adventure had it’s final day of operation on August 13, 2017.  This is when the audio for this episode was recorded.  Luckily it wasn’t recorded on the final ride of the day because the attraction broke down on it’s final ride and guests had walk out of the ride on foot.

Now it’s time to take one last ride on Ellen’s Energy Adventure.  Along for this final journey is my friend John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this, now extinct, attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience EPCOT’S Ellen’s Energy Adventure.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

It’s time to put on our diving gear and head back to Future World in EPCOT to experience The Seas With Nemo & Friends.  The Guidemap describe this attraction by saying, “Ride alongside characters from Disney Pixar’s ‘Finding Nemo,’ then surround yourself with thousands of real sea creatures at the Undersea Observation Deck at SeaBase.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and FastPass+ is available.  It should be noted that though we will just bee hearing the ride audio in this episode, The Seas with Nemo & Friends is the name of the entire pavilion, including all the aquarium exhibits.

We will touch on this as we explore five fast facts about The Seas with Nemo & Friends!

1. The Pavilion that houses The Seas with Nemo & Friends was originally called The Living Seas and opened on January 15, 1986,  Beginning in December of 2003, the pavilion was slowly re-themed based on the film Finding Nemo.  This changeover was officially completed when the entire pavilion was rededicated on January 24, 2007.

2.  Though it is no longer the case, at the time it was built, the aquarium portion of the pavilion had the largest saltwater tank in the world holding 5.7 million US gallons of water.  Though it is no longer the largest in the world, the tank is so big, the entirety of Spaceship Earth could fit inside of it!

3.  The ride portion of the pavilion, where guests follow along while Marlin and Dory search for Nemo, roughly follows the same track as the pavilion’s previous ride, The Seacabs.  The Seacab track was lengthened by 280 feet for the new Nemo attraction and the Seacabs were replaces by Clammobiles.

4. One of the most impressive ride effects is the finale where it appears as if the characters from Finding Nemo are actually swimming inside the pavilion’s giant aquarium.  This effect is possible thanks to a brand new projection technique that was developed exclusively for this attraction.

5.  The ride ends with the cast singing the song ‘Big Blue World.’  This tune was adapted from the Finding Nemo Musical at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Now it’s time to experience the ride portion of The Seas with Nemo & friends.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and after the ride audio we’ll discuss our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot in Walt Disney World!

Welcome to Attraction Checklist.

This episode we revisit an attraction we’ve experienced before that got a bit of a refresh.  We are headed to Disney California Adventure to ride Soarin’ Around the World.  The Guidemap describes Soarin’ Around The World by saying; Soar and swoop over famous landmarks.  Guests must be 40” or taller to experience this attraction and the thrill level describes the ride as being Loud, Dark, Slow and having Small Drops.  FastPasses are available for this attraction.

Before we buckle up for take off, here are five fast facts about Soarin’ Around The World.

1. Soarin’ Around The World at Disney California Adventure is an updated version of the classic Soarin’ over California attraction.  A new film was introduced at Disney California Adventure on June 17, 2016.

2.  The updated version of the film matches the films at both Shanghai Disneyland and Epcot at Walt Disney World however each movie has a different finale scene where you soar over the respective parks that the attraction is in.  The Disney California Adventure version features a flyover of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland, while while the Shanghai version features a flyover Shanghai and the EPCOT version features a pass by Spaceship Earth.

3.  The new film features a brand new score by Emmy winner Bruce Broughton, but it has elements of the original attraction’s score that had music by Jerry Goldsmith.  The score was recorded by the London Studio Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

4. Locations visited on the update attraction now feature landmarks such as the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower and The Great Pyramids in Egypt.

5.  The smells on the attraction have been updated as well.  Now the smells of grass in Africa, the ocean of the South Pacific and roses of the Taj Mahal fill your nose as you soar above the various landmarks.

Along for the ride today is my friend John B. deHaas and you will hear our review of the updated attraction moments after we stepped off of it for the first time.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Disney California Adventure’s Soarin’ Around The World.

We’ve got something a little different this episode as we take a look at a classic Walt Disney World attraction that is not inside one of the four parks but on the waters of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon!  It is the Electrical Water Pageant!  It’s not listed in any guide maps, but it is described on the Walt Disney World website in the following manner: Great sea creatures and twinkling flags cross the lagoon to electronic tunes in this playful nighttime water parade.

Before we experience this nighttime classic, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant.

1. The 15 Minute Long Electrical Water Pageant debuted on Monday, October 25, 1971 making it one of the few original opening year shows that is still running at Walt Disney World.

2. The Electrical Water Pageant consists of 14 floats which contain over 50,000 light bulbs to light up the parade’s turtles, whales, octopus and sea serpent!  It is said that crews replace anywhere from 100 to 1500 bulbs a week to keep the floats in tip top shape.

3. Guests today can see the same floats in the same order dating back to 1977

4. The Electrical Water Pageant runs up to six times a night at various locations on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.  Guests can watch from locations including the Polyneasian resort, Fort Wilderness Campground and Disney’s contemporary hotel.

5. The electrical Water Pageant was the inspiration behind the Main Street Electrical Parade!  The music piece Baroque Hoedown which is commonly associated with the Main Street Electrical Parade was originally featured in the Electrical Water Pageant!

Now it’s time to light up the night with the the Electrical Water Pageant.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording.  And stay tuned after the audio to hear my thoughts on this attraction as you’ll be hearing my first time experiencing Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant.

INTRO TRANSCRIPT

This episode we are headed back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to Pandora to hop on the Na’vi River Journey.  The souvenir guidemap describes the Na’vi River Journey as follows: Journey deep into the bioluminescent rainforest in search of the Na’vi Shaman of Songs.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and FastPass+ is available.

Before we search for the Shaman of Songs, here are five fast facts about the Na’vi River Journey.

1. The Na’vi Rivier Journey, based on James Cameron’s movie Avatar, had several soft opening previews, but officially opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, 2017.

2. The winding queue area features textiles created by the Na’vi as well as totems to the Shaman of Songs.

3. The ceiling of the main queue area features a woven map of the Kaspavan river and at night, this map lights up and shows ‘real time’ representations of the various life forms moving along the river.

4.  The 4 and a half minute long river journey features layered projections of various Pandora natives and wildlife coupled with actual sets and video projection mapping technology to make creatures seem three dimensional.

5.  The finale of the attraction features a float past the Shaman of Songs.  There is not much information available about the building of the Shaman of songs animatronic other than it is the most complex animatronic Walt Disney Imagineering has ever created.  Walt Disney Imagineering Executive producer Lisa Girolami says of the animatronic, “…the key is we don’t stop until that technology can’t be seen. It should be invisible, so when you see the Shaman she does look lifelike.”

And now that we know a little more about the Na’vi River Journey, let’s hop aboard our boat and experience the attraction for ourselves.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now and stay tuned after the ride to hear my initial impressions of the Na’Vi River Journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
